MeterBar macOS menu bar app showing circular session and weekly usage gauges, per-model breakdown, routines tracker, and cost analysis
Before → after

Same Claude plan.
Very different day.

Without MeterBar
  • Tab-check claude.ai every 15 minutes, in vain.
  • Get blindsided by a rate limit mid-refactor.
  • Guess whether 73% is dangerous or fine.
  • Only spot Opus burn when the week's already gone.
With MeterBar
  • A glance at the menu bar tells you everything.
  • Nudges at 80% and 95% — wrap up on your terms.
  • Color-coded signal: blue, amber, red. No guessing.
  • See Opus spend by project, kill runaway burn early.

To set up

You're paying for Claude
and flying blind.

  • You're 45 minutes into a debugging session. Claude just stops. No warning — just a rate limit error and hours to wait.
  • Anthropic shows you 73%. Is that dangerous? Normal? You have zero context and no idea whether to slow down.
  • Opus quietly burns your weekly budget on one-liner replies. You find out when it's already gone.
  • You keep a claude.ai tab open to check. Every refresh pulls you out of your work. That tab is costing you more than the rate limit.
rate_limit_error
You've been rate limited.
Your limit will reset in 3 hours.
Try again later or switch model.

Real numbers — not guesses

Pulls your actual quota straight from claude.ai — the same numbers Anthropic shows you. No estimates, no proxy math. Sync on demand, any time, one click.

A nudge before the wall

Native macOS notifications at 80% and 95%. Enough time to wrap up gracefully — not scramble after the fact.

Find where your budget goes

30-day breakdown by project and model. Spot if Opus is burning through your budget writing commit messages.

Invisible until you need it

Pure AppKit — not Electron. Tiny footprint, no Dock clutter. A number in your menu bar. That's it.

Set it once, forget it

Launches automatically on login. Quiet, always on, never in the way. The kind of tool that earns its keep by disappearing.

Your data stays on your Mac

No accounts, no telemetry, no backend. Reads your local session logs and syncs with claude.ai directly. Claude's servers never know MeterBar exists.

1

Install

Download the .dmg, drag to Applications, launch. Enter your license key. Under 90 seconds, start to finish.

2

Connect once

MeterBar opens claude.ai in a secure built-in window. Sign in once. Your session stays on your Mac — nowhere else.

3

Never worry again

Usage in your menu bar. Alerts before limits. Cost data on demand. You'll wonder how you coded without it.

From the maker
“I got rate-limited in the middle of a refactor four times in one week. I'm a Max user — I shouldn't have to babysit a usage dashboard. So I built the tool I wanted: one glance, you know.

Questions

Works with Pro, Max, and Team plans?
Yes. MeterBar works with any paid Claude plan that has rate limits. It reads local session logs and syncs with claude.ai's usage page.
Does any data leave my machine?
No. MeterBar runs entirely on your Mac. The only network request is to claude.ai for quota sync — the same page you'd check manually. No analytics, no backend, nothing.
What if I don't use Claude Code?
The cost breakdown requires Claude Code's local session logs. The live quota gauge works for anyone with a Claude account via the built-in sync.
Windows or Linux?
macOS only for now. It uses native AppKit for the menu bar. Cross-platform is on the roadmap.
